President Rajapaksa met about 1,200 resettled civilians in Thunukkai and addressed them in Tamil urging all the civilians to unite and help the government to develop the country since the war is now over and peace has dawned.
The new settlers received cash donations, household utensils, roofing sheets, agricultural equipment, and dry ration packets from the President. Fifteen resettled families received Rs. 5000 cash and a bank savings book with a deposit of Rs. 20,000 for restarting their livelihoods under the Uthuru Wasanthaya (Northern Spring) development programme.
President Rajapaksa then visited the troops in Mullankavil Brigade Headquarters and addressed about 3,200 servicemen.
Addressing the troops the President announced a salary hike for the Government forces with immediate effect as a gift for the sacrifices made by the brave soldiers during the war. President Rajapaksa expressed his gratitude to the support extended by the security forces when the battle was launched to bring that tragic era to an end.
President Rajapaksa as their Commander-In-Chief mingled with the war heroes who had engaged in the humanitarian operation in the Wanni to defeat terrorism.
Later President Rajapaksa and his entourage inspected the construction of Mullankavil hospital and spoke to the Army and civil engineers, engaged in the project.
The delegation later on visited the Danish demining team at work in the area and discussed the ongoing demining operations in the area.
Government Agent of Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu Ms. Emelda Sukumar, President's Secretary Lalith Weeratunga, Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasooriya, Air Force Commander Air Chief Marshal Roshan Gunathilaka, and IGP Mahinda Balasuriya were also present.
