Tue, Nov 3, 2009, 09:15 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Nov 03, Colombo: The initial report of the special investigation conducted over the contaminated drug bottles was handed over to the Health Secretary this evening.

Dr. Hemantha Benaragama, the Director of the National Drugs Authority told the media that he has handed over the report to the Health Secretary Dr. Athula Kahandaliyanage this evening with the suggestions that should be implemented.

When contacted, the Health Secretary said he has to examine the initial report in detail and implement the suggestions later.

The Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry of Sri Lanka has called for this investigation soon after several drug bottles from hospitals across the country were found to contain foreign materials.

The Ministry last Friday (Oct 30) asked the six Indian companies who supplied the contaminated vials of medicine to submit explanations within three days.

Four Indian agents out of the six drug importers and two local representatives from other companies participated in this investigation.
