Tue, Nov 3, 2009, 08:30 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Nov 03, Colombo: The Anuradhapura Magistrate Courts today ordered the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to file indictments against the suspects of the assassination of Major General Janaka Perera and others immediately.

The Chief Magistrate of Anuradhapura, Dharshika Wimalasiri made this order when the case was heard this morning.

During the hearing the CID has informed the Courts that they are unable to file the indictments against the suspects as they have not finalized the investigations yet.

However, the Chief Magistrate stressed that indictments against the suspects can be filed while the investigations are continuing.

The Magistrate ordered to further remand the suspects for another two weeks.

Major General Janaka Perera and 27 others including his wife were killed on October 09, 2008 when a suicide bomber blew himself at the opposition UNP party office in Anuradhapura. Six suspects are in remand custody over the incident.
