* New IGP assumes duties in Sri Lanka

Nov 03, Colombo: Newly appointed Inspector General of Police Mahinda Balasuriya assumed duties in his new post this morning at a ceremony held in the Police Headquarters in Fort.

The new IGP was honored with a Guard of honor at the Police Headquarters.

Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday appointed senior Deputy Inspector General Mahinda Balasuriya as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP) replacing Jayantha Wickramarathna who retired as IGP on last Saturday.

Mahinda Balasuriya, who has a long service in the department, is an old boy of Ananda College in Colombo. He will be the 32nd IGP of the Sri Lanka Police department.
