* Delay in issuing visas at British High Commission in Sri Lanka

Nov 03, Colombo: Due to the installation of a new IT system at the British High Commission in Colombo, visa applications for the period Thursday 19 November to Monday 23 November 2009 will not be accepted by the UK Border Agency, the British High Commission in Colombo announced today.

The last day on which VFS will accept new applications will be Wednesday 18 November. A full service will resume on Tuesday 24 November, the release further added.

The full text of the release as follows.

The British High Commission in Colombo would like to advise customers that the UK Border Agency will be unable to accept new visa applications for the period Thursday 19 November to Monday 23 November 2009.This is due to the installation of a new IT system at the British High Commission, as part of an IT rollout to offices world-wide.

The last day on which VFS will accept new applications will be Wednesday 18 November. A full service will resume on Tuesday 24 November.

During this time, customers who made a visa application before 18 November will be able to collect their passports from the visa application centre from 1000hrs to 1700hrs.

Customers who intend to travel to the UK in November or December are advised to submit their visa applications as soon as possible. Currently the UK Border Agency is processing applications within the published target times.

The British High Commission apologises in advance for any inconvenience these delays may cause.
