Nov 02, Colombo: Sri Lankan Government today disclosed for the first time that Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa was questioned by the US immigration authorities early this year.
Speaking at a press briefing held in Colombo this morning the leader of the National Freedom Front Wimal Weerawansa said that the questioning took place when the Defence Secretary arrived in the US as a member of the Sri Lankan delegation attending the UN General Assembly this year.
According to MP Weerawansha the Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa was questioned for nearly an hour by the US immigration authorities.
"This was not revealed to the media at that time, but our Defence Secretary has been questioned for one hour by some US immigration officials on his arrival in the country," he said.
"Attempts to question the Defence Secretary once again by the US will be a foreign conspiracy," he added.
"The US is trying to use General Fonseka for this conspiracy and the US has no right to question him on human rights issues," NFF leader Wimal Weerawansa said.
