* New Police Chief appointed in Sri Lanka

Nov 02, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa today appointed senior Deputy Inspector General Mahinda Balasuriya as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP) at the Temple Trees.

Mahinda Balasuriya, an old boy of Ananda College in Colombo will be the 32nd IGP of the Sri Lanka Police department.

He replaces Jayantha Wickramarathna who retired as IGP yesterday. The new IGP is to assume duties in his new post tomorrow.

Balasuriya has joined Sri Lanka police department in 1978 as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and served in various ranks in the department.

President's Secretary Lalith Weeratunga and Senior DIG N. K. Ilangakoon were also present at the occasion.
