* Possible landslide warning to Sri Lankan hill country

Nov 01, Colombo: The National Building Research Institute of Sri Lanka has issued a warning to the residents that landslides may occur in various parts of the central hill country due to the prevailing rainy weather.

If the rainy weather continued for the next few days, there will be a possibility of landslides occurring in the hill slopes in the Central Province, R.M.S Bandara the head of the Institute confirmed.

The NBRI has warned the residents to be extra vigilant if there is loose soil overlooking their houses.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department said that the ongoing thunder showers could be experienced in many parts of the island further.

According to G. D. Ananda Perera, duty officer of the Department, there is also the danger of lightning.

An 11-year-old boy at Henegama, Opanayake in Ratnapura was killed by lightening yesterday, the police said.
