* Plans to light up the entire northern region of Sri Lanka

May 31, Colombo: The Sri Lanka government is planning to provide electricity to all areas in the northern region as soon as possible.

W. D. J. Seneviratne, Minister of Power and Energy said they are planning to light up the entire North under the "Uthuru Wasanthaya" program, which was implemented by the government to develop the region.

The Ceylon Electricity Board needs 50 megawatts to provide electricity to the entire north.

The Power and Energy Ministry hopes to get 70 percent of the required electricity from the Chunnakam Coal Power Plant.

Chunnakam power plant is currently producing 15 megawatts, and the Ministry plans to upgrade its production to 35 megawatts.
