May 30, Colombo: Sri Lanka Foreign Affairs Minister Rohitha Bogollagama has requested the Government of Malaysia to consider proscribing the LTTE.

According to the Foreign Ministry, Minister Bogollagama made this request when he met with the Malaysian Minister of Defence, Y.B. Dato’Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, yesterday during his Singapore tour to attend the 8th Shangri La Dialogue, a global conference.

The Minister pointed out that the LTTE is already banned in over 30 countries including the USA, UK, Canada, India and many of the EU nations.

Foreign Minister Bogollagama expressed his deep concern regarding certain illicit overseas activities of the LTTE such as fund raising, arms trading and human trafficking.

The Malaysian Defence Minister congratulated the Government of Sri Lanka for defeating the LTTE, the Foreign Ministry added.

He told Minister Bogollagama that the Sri Lankan Government has earned the respect of the entire world for the bold steps taken to wipe out terrorism.
