Possible landslide threats in four districts of Sri Lanka

June 30, Colombo: With the start of southwest monsoon rains, four districts have been identified as prone to the threats of possible landslides, Disaster Management Center (DMC) said.
Kegalle, Kalutara, Ratnapura, and Nuwara Eliya are the districts identified as landslide risk areas.
The DMC asked the people in these areas to be more vigilant as landslides could happen suddenly with this prevailing weather conditions.
Alapatha, Pelmadulla, Rathnapura, Eheliyagoda, Kalawana and Kahawaththa have been identified as the most risk areas in Ratnapura district.
Yatiyanthota, Bulathkohupitiya and Deraniyagala are at high risk in Kegalle while Palindanuwara, Bulathsinhala, Mathugama and Agalawaththa of Kalutara District are also threatened.
In Nuwara Eliya District the areas identified with possible landslide threats are Ambagamuwa, Ginigathhena, Norton Bridge, Kaniyon, Laxapana and Maskeliya, the Disaster Management Center (DMC) said.
