June 23, Badulla: A tense situation erupted at the Badulla District Secretariat premises this morning during the handing over of nomination papers of Sri Lanka's ruling party, United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA).
According to the sources, a heated argument had risen between the Assistant Retaining Officer of Badulla District and Deputy Health Minister Vadiwel Suresh.
The Assistant Retaining Officer of Badulla District has refused the entry to outsiders to his office except Minister Susil Premajayantha, the General Secretary of the UPFA and the Leader of the Ceylon Workers Congress Minister Arumugam Thondaman for the hand over of the nomination lists.
Meantime the Deputy Minister Suresh has attempted to forcibly enter the Retaining Officer's office creating a squabble at the premises.
However, Minister Dilan Perera has interfered and resolved the crisis to diffuse the tension.
The ruling party confirmed that they have handed over the nomination lists this morning for Monaragala District too.
