New security system for Sri Lanka IDPs

June 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka government is to introduce a new security system for the safety of the internally displaced persons in the North.
The Minister of Human Rights and Disaster Management, Mahinda Samarasinghe said that the Human Rights Commission of the United Nation has also welcomed the new security system to be introduced on behalf of the IDPs.
Under the new security system senior government officials and the representatives of both local and International Non Government Organizations are to work together.
Currently, Sri Lanka Police and the Army together provide security for the IDPs.
Following the introduction of the new system, the government hopes to weekly meet the representatives to observe the security conditions of the IDPs living in welfare centers of Vavuniya and Jaffna.
