June 18, Colombo: Sri Lankan health officials yesterday detected a second patient with swine flu (H1N1). The second patient is a six-year-old boy who was a cousin of the first patient, an eight-year-old boy, and arrived in Sri Lanka with the same family.
The family of eight, residents of Australia, arrived in the country last weekend via Singapore to attend a wedding.
Both patients are receiving treatments at the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) at Angoda.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan government said it will take tough actions against visitors who reach the country without providing the details of their health conditions.
Health Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva said that the government has decided to get a complete written report over the health condition of visitors when they reach the country through the airport or the harbour.
According to the Minister all visitors are required to fill a Health Information Form at the airport or the harbour and hand it over to Quarantine Department officials for screening.
The Health Ministry has already instructed the Department of Immigration and Emigration not to allow the visitors who fail to fill the form to enter the country.
