During the discussions held between visiting Sri Lanka President and Myanmar's Prime
Minister the two countries also agreed to work closely at all future international conventions.
President and First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa accompanied by their two sons, Yoshitha and
Rohitha were given a red carpet welcome by the Chairman of the State Peace and Development
Council of the Union of Myanmar, Senior General, Than Shawe at the Nay Pyi Taw Airport yesterday.
Later, President Rajapaksa and his delegation met with the Senior General, Than Shawe at his office.
President also paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister of Myanmar, General Thein Sein at his office.
The two leaders discussed extending cooperation in religion, trade, economy, education, agriculture,
forest, hotels and tourism, transport, as well as in regional and international arenas according
to the Sri Lankan Government Information Department.
The Sri Lankan delegation held bilateral discussions to strengthen diplomatic relations between
the two countries. The foreign ministers of the two countries signed agreements that eased visa
restrictions and pledged cooperation in the tourism sector.
According to the Government Information Department, the leader of Myanmar had accepted an invitation
extended by President Rajapaksa to tour Sri Lanka.
The President had also expressed his happiness at being able to tour Myanmar at a time when the two
countries were celebrating 60 years of diplomatic relations.
Ministers Rohitha Bogollagama, Dullas Alahapperuma, Mervyn Silva, MP Wimal Weerawansa, Additional
Secretary to the President Gamini Senerath and Coordinating Secretary to the President Sajin Vas
Gunawardane, also participated in the tour.
