Sri Lanka will require gas emission level certificate for revenue license

June 7, Colombo: Sri Lanka will begin requiring a gas emission certificate in order to obtain a revenue license, effective June 22 for motor vehicles in the Southern, Central and North Central Provinces.
In a statement, Sri Lanka’s Department of Motor Traffic said brand new vehicles which are originally registered for a period of three years, vehicles registered prior to 1975, and all agricultural and land vehicles will be exempt from this requirement
The statement added, “According to the regulations in the Gazette notification published on January 25, 2008 for regulating gas emissions from motor vehicles and obtaining the revenue licenses in the Southern, Central and North Central Provinces under the regulation, it will be made compulsory with effect from 22.06.2009 that revenue licenses will be issued only on producing a gas emission level certificate.”
