200 suspects in Sri Lankan remand prison commence hunger strike

July 31 (CP) Colombo- Demanding early legal actions a group of suspects detained at the Colombo remand prison have commenced a hunger strike.
The Prison Department said over 200 suspects, all arrested for having LTTE links started a hunger strike few days ago.
The suspects are being detained at the remand prison for further questioning, but they are demanding early legal actions, the Prison Department said.
However, speaking to the media the Deputy Minister of Justice and Law Reforms V. Puthrasigamani said they would take actions on those suspects after a special discussion to be held with the Defence Secretary on August 10th.
Sri Lanka government has already asked the suspects to give up the hunger strike.
