Sri Lanka provides relief package for people unemployed due to economic crisis

July 31, Colombo: Sri Lanka government has decided to provide relief to those who lost their employment as a result of the global economic crisis.
All the workers who got less than Rs.20,000 salary per month will be qualified for this scheme which is to be introduced by the government in the near future, the Minister of Labour and Man Power, Athauda Senaviratne said.
The Labour Ministry has planned to provide half a salary per month for those employees, the Minister added.
Under the program, a minimum of Rs. 4,000 and a maximum of Rs. 12,000 relief will be given to the all the unemployed who have worked more tan six months in one institute.
Employees of the Free Trade Zone, mostly in the apparel sector were hit hard due to the down turn of the global economy as the exports declined.
