July 31, Colombo: The National Transport Commission (NTC) yesterday announced that the private bus owners could raise the bus fares by only 5.3%.
The chairman of the NTC, Prof. Amal Kumarage stressed that the 7% increment the private bus owners sought will not be allowed.
The private bus owners associations have demanded 7% increment of bus fares due to the recent price hike in diesel and other relevant expenses.
According to the national policy on bus fare increase, the fares should go up by 1st of July each year, but this time the bus owners have not implemented it to honour the war heroes who liberated the nation from LTTE terrorism.
