Huge political revolt in Southern Province, says Sri Lanka government

July 30, Colombo: Sri Lanka government today said that there will be a huge political revolt in the Southern Province in the near future as several key opposition members in the South are to join the government soon.
Speaking at a press briefing held in Colombo this morning, Media Minister Laxman Yapa Abeywardana said several senior members of the main opposition United National Party will join the government in the coming week.
According to the Media Minister, eighteen Pradeshiya Sabha members of the UNP, including a former parliamentarian in the Southern Province are to join the ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA).
The government has decided to grant them contesting opportunities in the upcoming Southern PC elections.
Minister Abeywardena further said that the Southern Provincial Council will be dissolved in the next week and the UPFA will mark a significant victory with an outstanding majority.
