July 30, Colombo: The chairman of the Hikkaduwa urban council Vinnie Kariyawasam and another person were sentenced to death by the Balapitiya High Courts this evening for a murder charge.
Announcing the final verdict of the murder case which was being heard for more than ten years, the judge of Balapitiya High Court, Nimal Thilakarathna ordered the death sentence for the two suspects.
The suspects were accused of killing a businessman in Thotagamuwa area, R. Jayarathna De Silva 15 years ago.
The other suspect who was given the death sentence was Harischandra Silva of Thirimadura.
