July 29, Colombo: The newly constructed Uva-Wellassa University in Sri Lanka is to be opened on August 5th by the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Ministry of Higher Education said.

According to the Ministry, the Uva-Wellassa University has been constructed at a cost of over 2.2 billion rupees aiming to provide equal education opportunities to students in the country.

The first batch of the students in the Uva-Wellassa University has already been assured employments, the Ministry added.

This university is to introduce new study courses which suit the country's present requirements.

Additionally, Sri Lanka Government hopes to grant more higher-educational opportunities to the students who passed the GCE Advanced Level examination, but fail to enter the universities due to the lack of accommodation.
