New rail bus service commences in Sri Lanka's East

July 29, Colombo: Sri Lanka Government today initiated its first Rail Bus service in the Eastern province between Batticaloa and Trincomalee.
Transport Minister Dullas Alahapperuma inaugurated the service from the Batticaloa Railway Station this afternoon following a simple ceremony.
This rail bus service will be operated twice each day between Batticaloa and Trincomalee, the Transport Ministry said.
The Government of India has donated ten rail buses for this purpose, the Ministry added.
National Reconciliation and Integration Minister Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan and Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan were among those who were present at the occasion.
Sri Lanka Government hopes to commence another rail bus service in the Northern Province in near future.
