Sri Lanka main opposition blames government for education crisis

July 29, Colombo: Sri Lanka main opposition United National Party (UNP) today blamed the government for the carelessness of the education officials who have created headaches to the students sat for mid-term tests in schools all over the country.
Speaking to the media, the Monaragala District parliamentarian Ranjith Madduma Bandara said deploying unqualified persons as education officials was the main reason for this situation.
According to the MP Madduma Bandara, most of the education directors and zonal directors in Sri Lanka are over-aged persons and most of the high rankers in the education sector were political appointments.
Distributing a copy of a grade 11 history text book among the journalists, UNP MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara pointed out a huge mistake done by Sri Lanka education officials which said that the first man to reach the moon was Yuri Gagarin in 1961.
