131 remanded in Sri Lanka over the Beruwela mosque attack case

July 29, Colombo: The Kalutara Magistrate Court today ordered to remand 131 suspects for the murder of two devotees inside a Mosque in Beruwela area few days ago.
This was the largest number of suspects remanded by a Sri Lankan court in recent history over a one incident that killed two and injured nearly 40.
Following an identification parade of the suspects, the Additional Magistrate of Kalutara Ms. Chandani Dias remanded them until the 06th of August.
The suspects were brought to the Courts under heavy security, sources said.
A clash between two Muslim factions at a historic mosque on Friday (24) night at Mahagoda in Beruwela led to the killing of two people and injuring more.
The rival group burned down the historic Buhari mosque during the clash and police had later imposed curfew to control the tense situation in the area.
