* Bahrain Prime Minister meets Sri Lankan President

July 29, Colombo: Bahrain Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa today assured his country's fullest support for the resettlement and rehabilitation process of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the North.

The visiting Premier gave this assurance during a bilateral discussion held with the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa this morning, the Presidential Media Unit said.

Bahrain PM has expressed his gratification to the President for his leadership in defeating the terrorism in the country.

"The defeat of terrorism in Sri Lanka under the leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa was both admirable and commendable, as well as an example to other countries facing this threat to freedom today, the Bahrain leader said.

He said that this huge accomplishment of Sri Lanka is a good example for other nations fighting terrorism.

Sri Lanka President appraising the Bahraini leader of the steps taken by the government to resettle and rehabilitate more than 280,000 internally displaced persons in the North thanked the Bahrain government for the assistance given by them for the development process in the North.

The Prime Minister commending the work done by the government for the welfare of the displaced assured his country's support for the development of the troubled region and said that Bahrain would have discussions with other countries to garner their assistance to rebuild Sri Lanka.

The President invited the Government of Bahrain to facilitate the promotion of tourism to Sri Lanka and to invest in the in the Northern and Eastern Provinces of the country.

The two leaders agreed on the importance of expanding bilateral trade between the two countries and signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at this discussion.
