July 28, Colombo: Following the suspension of pornographic web sites in Sri Lanka, the government has taken measures to ban all the movies rated 'Adults-only' in the country.
The Minister of Cultural Affairs Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said the government will impose the ban as soon as possible on the 'Adults-only' movies once the Cabinet approval is obtained.
Additionally, all the commercials telecast on local television channels should be approved by the government before telecast, the Minister said. Advertisements on TV, radio and newspapers will be required to obtain the approval of the Public Performance Board.
According to the Cultural Affairs Minister the Government will also prohibit the printing of lewd magazines and papers.
According to the Minister, the government also hopes to amend the Public Performance Act so that the Public Performance Board would get more power.
Sri Lanka Courts earlier ordered the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (TRC) to suspend twelve pornographic web sites until August 7th.
