July 28, Colombo: Sri Lanka government has decided to impose an import tax on milk powder, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs said.
According to the Ministry this import tax will be imposed on milk powder to protect the local milk powder manufactures.
The Ministry said the prices of the milk powder will not be increased by this tax as the prices in the international market have gone down sharply.
Meanwhile, the government has already imposed an import tax on big onions to protect the local farmers in Dambulla area.
