July 04, Colombo: Sri Lanka Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the petition filed by the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) against the rejection of its nominations for the Jaffna Municipal Council elections.
After perusing the objection filed by the Election Commissioner, the three-judge Bench headed by Chief Justice Asoka De Silva said that the petition could not be taken up and dismissed it.
The Election Commissioner had brought to the notice of the Court that the nominations were rejected, as there was a variation in the signatures of one of the nominees.
Chief Justice Asoka De Silva suggested to the petitioners that they could produce the said signatures to the Government handwriting analyst for verification.
Acting General Secretary of the party Nizam Kariapper filed this petition several days ago naming the Elections Commissioner and the Jaffna Returning Officer as respondents.
