July 02, Colombo: Sri Lanka police fatally shot a notorious underworld figure this evening at Keselwaththa in Central Colombo.

Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekara said that the deceased was wanted for his involvement in many ransom activities carried out in the past under the guise of LTTE, the rebel outfit.

The suspect was shot when he attempted to shoot a policeman who went to arrest him over the information revealed by another three suspects arrested earlier.

Police said they opened fire at the suspect in self defence.
