* Flood warning issued for the residents near the Kelani River in Sri Lanka as reservoir spills over

July 02, Colombo: Residents living around the Maussakele reservoir in Maskeliya are warned of a possible flood threat as the reservoir has begun to spill over.

Residents in the areas of Avissawella, Kithulgala, Yatiyantota and Hanwella have also been warned of floods as the water lever in Kelani River is rising.

Coordinating Officer of the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), Keerthi Ekanayake said due to the spilling over of the Maussakele reservoir, the engineers have opened the sluice gates of the reservoir causing the water level of the Kelani River to rise.

According to the Disaster Management Centre Maskeliya and its suburbs are still experiencing torrential rains.
