Sri Lanka Cricket to use Bangladesh tour to test younger players

Dec 31, Colombo: Sri Lanka Cricket plans to use the upcoming tri series in Bangladesh in January as a testing platform for the younger Sri Lankan players.
Addressing the media at the SLC auditorium Wednesday, the captain of the Sri Lankan team, Kumara Sangakkara said he is eager to develop the bench strength of the team on the road to the World Cup 2011 by providing experience to the younger players who have performed exceptionally in the recent and forthcoming tours.
Sri Lanka's national Coach Trevor Bayliss said he is excited to include the young players for the forthcoming tri series tournament.
The SLC has made several changes to the squad for the tourddropping the veteran batsmen Sanath Jayasuriya and Chamara Kapugedera, fast bowler Lasith Malinga and spinner Ajantha Mendis.
Also batsman Mahela Jayawardene, all rounder Angelo Mathews and bowlers Muttiah Muralitharan and Dilhara Fernando were also left out due to injuries.
The new players included in the squad are Chamara Silva, Lahiru Thirimanne, leg spinner Malinga Bandara and fast bowler Thilan Thushara.
Chairman of the Selection committee Ashantha De Mel praised Tillekaratne Dilshan for his performance during the Indian tour and said he fully deserves the Vice Captaincy.
