Party activists in Bandaragama clash over the arrest of Marxist monk

Dec 29, Colombo: Tension prevailed in the city of Bandaragama as two groups of political activists clashed over the arrest and remand of the Marxist monk, Venerable Dambara Amila Thera this afternoon.
A group led by the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and another led by the local leader of the ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) clashed when the Marxist party staged a protest against the monk's arrest, police spokesman SSP I.M Karunaratna said.
Panadura and Bandaragama police have dispersed the rioters and brought the situation under control. A woman injured in the brawl has been admitted to the hospital.
