The politically active Amila thera, the President of the National Patriotic Centre was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department on Sunday over several allegations that he defrauded people promising them foreign employment.
His supporters say the arrest was a political revenge since the monk has pledged his support to the opposition candidate, General Sarath Fonseka at the upcoming presidential elections.

Dec 29, Colombo: The Horana Magistrate Tuesday ordered to further remand the Marxist party monk Venerable Dambara Amila Thera until January 8. The monk is being held at the Kalutara remand prison.
