Sri Lanka President commends the service of Civil Defence Committees

Dec 29, Anuradhapura: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa commended the service given by the representatives of Civil Defence Committees in protecting their villages from the threats of Tiger terrorism.
Addressing a meeting with the representatives of Civil Defence Committees of the North Central Province at President's house in Anuradhapura Monday, President Rajapaksa said the commitment of this group should not be undervalued and said they are the real heroes who protected the villagers. The entire people are stakeholders of the victory, he said.
The President said the Civil Defence Committees were appointed to prepare the background for the advancing troops and they were entrusted with protecting the villages throughout the day.
The representatives of these committees were committed to the protection of the people, the President stressed.
Governor of the North Central Province Karunaratna Divulgane and Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake were also present.
During his visit to Anuradhapura yesterday (28) the President also participated in a ceremony to hand over National Vocational Qualification certificates to the qualified students in the North Central Province.
