Sat, Dec 26, 2009, 09:20 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Dec 26, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa said no force should be allowed to grab the lands that belonged to the Muslim community in the country and pledged to resettle all the Muslims displaced due to terrorism in their original homes.

Addressing a mammoth rally as the chief guest of the All Ceylon Muslim Congress party convention held in Alankuda Play Ground in Puttalam this morning the President reminded the leaders who signed agreements with the LTTE that although thousands of Muslims had been living in welfare camps for over two decades due to the LTTE atrocities those leaders did not even make a comment on the displaced Muslim community.

President Rajapaksa urged the Muslim people not to fall prey to the rumors spread by the opposition that Muslim community is being harassed at present.

The President stressed that his government is committed to fulfill the aspirations of the Muslim community.

Senior advisor to the President, parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa promised to resettle all the displaced Muslim families in the North in their original places before the end of next May. The Puttalam-Mannar road will be opened next year, he assured.

The Leader of All Ceylon Muslim Congress Minister Rishad Badurdeen said President is the only leader who liberated the lands of the Muslims from the grip of terrorism. Muslims in the East are living without fear at present, he pointed out. Minister Badurdeen presented a memento to the President at the ceremony. Cooperative Minister Najeeb A. Majeed, Eastern Provincial Council Health Minister M.L.A.M. also participated.
