Addressing the business community of Kandy District at the President's House on Tuesday evening, the President said the Sri Lanka withered the global economic crisis successfully due to the great support rendered by the public to the government during the crisis period.
The President commended the assistance Sri Lanka received from friendly countries like India, Pakistan, Iran and China when the Western countries imposed restrictions and conditions on economic aid.
President Rajapaksa said it is the local business community who can steer the country towards economic development.
The government is always committed to support the local businesses by providing tax concessions and necessary technological knowledge to improve their businesses.
President also met the members of professional associations in Kandy yesterday. Sarath Ekanayaka, Chief Minister of Central Province was also present at the meeting.
