Haul of claymore mines recovered in Northern Sri Lanka

Dec 19, Colombo: Sri Lankan Army troops conducting search and clear operations in the northern region recovered a large haul of claymore mines yesterday (18), the military said.
The troops of Task Force -2 recovered fifty two claymore mines during search operations conducted in Udayarkattukulam area of Mullaitivu. The cache included 46 claymores of 7.5 kg each and 6 mines of 15kg each.
In a separate search conducted in Mulliyaveli area of Mullaitivu, the troops recovered 16 anti personnel mines.
Meanwhile the demining group Halo Trust recovered five AP mines and six 120 mm mortar bombs in the Adampan area of Mannar.
Army Intelligence troops based in 22 Division area of Sampur in Trincomalee found 109 mortar bombs of 120 mm and 144 mortar bombs of 82mm among a load of military items recovered in the area.
Continued detection of buried mines and other military items in the northern region is an impediment to the demining in the region.
