* Government has an effective plan to develop the country, Sri Lanka President says

Dec 19, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa said his government has an effective plan to develop the country and requested the public to set aside all political differences and support him to lead the country to a brighter future.

Addressing the professionals and the business community in the Kurunegala District this morning, the President said the government has already eliminated terrorism and now it has focused on the development of the country.

As a result of government's successful conclusion of the war it secured the democratic rights of the people, the President said. The people in the northern and eastern provinces can now freely engage in their daily activities, he added.

The government has launched massive development programs to rehabilitate the two provinces through an agricultural and industrial revival, the President stressed.

The recent cross over to the ruling party, Kurunegala District parliamentarian and Cabinet Minister of Land, Land Development, Human Settlement, and Ranaviru Welfare Johnston Fernando also addressed the gathering.

Chief Minister of Northwestern Province Athula Wijesinghe, Governor Tissa R Balalla, Ministers S.B Nawinna, Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, Jayaratna Herath, Indika Bandaranayake also participated in the meeting.
