U.S. Assistant Secretary Blake meets Sri Lanka President

Dec 09, Colombo: The Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs of the United States Department of State Robert Blake met Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Temple Trees yesterday.
The Assistant Secretary is here to follow up on a range of issues as the country moves through the post-conflict phase, focusing on the displaced persons, the State Department said. This is Blake's first trip to the country as Assistant Secretary.
Blake who was the former U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka, visited the Manik Farm welfare camps in Vavuniya yesterday morning, and met with the displaced people remained in the camps to discuss their needs.
The Assistant Secretary expressed his satisfaction on the government's ongoing resettlement program and its latest measure to grant freedom of movement to the displaced. He was pleased with the mine risk education being given to the students in the area and the facilities at the camps.
Minister Rohitha Bogollagama, President's Senior Advisor and MP Basil Rajapaksa, President's Secretary Lalith Weerathunge, Foreign Ministry Secretary Romesh Jayasinghe were also present.
