Dec 09, Colombo: Sri Lanka Transportation Ministry teaming up with Mobitel, the national mobile service provider launched an on-line ticket reservation service to the rail commuters today.
With the new service the rail commuters will be able to reserve train tickets via their mobile phones.
Initially this service will be available only for the Colombo-Kandy intercity train. The Transportation Ministry hopes to extend the service island wide in six months.
Mobitel customers can dial 365 at any time and reserve their seats. The commuters can pick up the reserved tickets at Colombo-Fort, Gampaha, Kandy and Peradeniya Railway Stations and any Mobitel outlet.
Mobitel is a Sri Lanka Telecom company.
