Sri Lanka President marks International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Dec 03, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa today marked the International Day of Persons with Disabilities at the Temple Trees with a gathering of over 4,000 disabled people.
President Rajapaksa addressing the audience said the government has taken all necessary measures to enable all disabled persons living in the country to live with dignity. The President assured his government's firm commitment to fulfill all its responsibilities towards the valiant soldiers who were disabled in combat.
Handing out financial assistance to the disabled persons, President Rajapaksa promised to solve 90 percent of the problems faced by the country's disabled community by the international disability day next year.
President Rajapaksa also observed a demonstration of a Talking Computer for the visually handicapped people.
A Stamp and a First Day Cover was issued to commemorate the International day of Persons with Disabilities.
Ministers Douglas Devananda, Dullas Alahapperuma, Minister S. Sellasamy, Deputy Minister Lional Premasiri, Secretary of Ministry of Social Welfare and Development Mrs. V. Jegarajasingham were present at the occasion
