Sri Lanka Army offers another amnesty period for deserters

Dec 02, Colombo: Sri Lanka army deserters will have another chance to get them released from their obligations this month.
At the defense press briefing today the military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said deserters who have not yet obtained legal release may apply by presenting themselves at Bodhirajarama Viharaya in Panagoda from December 07th through 31st.
The spokesman said that 20,597 deserters have obtained legal release, so far while urging the youth to join the Army during this month at recruitment centers. Brigadier Nanayakkara revealed that 5,972 have joined the Army during the last two months.
Meanwhile, country's security arrangements made in the pre - war period will be systematically revised, on the recommendations based on the intelligence reports after analyzing the security situation, the defense spokesman, Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said at the press briefing.
The government has eased the road restrictions in and around Colombo high security zones and ceased closing roads for the VIP travel. The roads are closed only if the President travels now, the spokesman said.
