Sri Lanka raises LP gas prices

Aug 31, Colombo: The two main LP gas companies in Sri Lanka has revised their prices on a 12.5 kg LP gas cylinder with effect from midnight today.
Accordingly, the price of a 12.5 kg Shell gas cylinder goes up by Rs. 103 from Rs. 1,447 to Rs. 1,550, while the price of a Laugh gas cylinder goes up by Rs. 69 from Rs. 1,407 to Rs. 1,476, the government announced.
Sri Lanka's Trade, Market Development and Consumer Affairs Minister, Bandula Gunawardena said the price adjustments have been made according to the price formula adopted by the Consumer Protection Authority and the respective companies.
The Minister said that the government has granted approval to increase the domestic gas prices according to price revision formula every two months.
The gas companies decide the price adjustments depending on the world fuel prices. The two gas companies stressed that they need a price increase as the price of domestic cooking gas has gone up in the world market.
