Tue, Aug 25, 2009, 07:27 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 25, Colombo: Sri Lanka's National Transport Commission (NTC) says that based on the ruling by the Supreme Court the use of ticketing machines and uniforms for employees on inter provincial buses have been made compulsory effective from January 01, 2010.

According to the NTC, tough measures will be taken on all the bus owners who will not follow these instructions after the 1st of January.

The chairman of the Lanka Private Bus Association, Gemunu Wijeratna said they are now readying to accept these two rulings made compulsory by the Supreme Courts.

They have already considered introducing a special loan scheme for the private bus owners to buy the ticketing machines immediately.

The Supreme Court earlier ordered all the private busses operating in the Western Province to use ticketing machines from August 1, 2008.
