* Supplementary estimate presented to Sri Lanka parliament seeking Rs. 900 million
Tue, Aug 18, 2009, 06:56 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 18, Colombo: Sri Lanka Government today submitted a supplementary estimate to the parliament seeking an additional sum of Rs. 900 million to provide fuel to the three wheeler owners at a concessionary rate.

Proposing this to the House, the Minister of Nation Building said that this additional money is needed since the allocation in the original estimate of 2009 is inadequate to grant the promised fuel relief.

The government has introduced a coupon system for three-wheel operators to receive up to 4 liters of petrol to each three-wheeler at Rs. 20 less than the regular price for a maximum allowance of 75 liters a month.

Deputy Finance minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said that 1,647 three wheeler drivers had applied to get the subsidized petrol.
