Aug 15, Colombo: Visitors to the world famous Sigiriya rock fortress came under another wasp attack this morning at the top of the rock, the police said.
Nearly 22 visitors were injured in the wasp attack and have been admitted to the Sigiriya Hospital.
According to the sources another group of tourists were trapped near the Lion's Paw entrance of the rock during the attack and later they were rescued with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Air Force detachment stationed nearby.
The rock and the surrounding areas are home to wasp colonies and the visitors to the rock are instructed not to be noisy to keep the wasps undisturbed.
Visitors say the authorities need to take measures to prevent the frequent wasp attacks as the tourist attraction may lose revenues if the wasp attacks to continue.
