* 10th Commander of Sri Lanka Army passes away

Aug 12, Colombo: A former Commander of Sri Lanka Army, General G.D.G.N (Nalin) Senaviratne has passed away this morning at the age of 78, Military Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said.

He was the 10th Commander of Sri Lanka Army and served in its capacity from 1985 to 1988.

General Senaviratne joined the Sri Lanka Army in 1953 and took over the duties as 10th Commander on 11th February 1985.

After the retirement in 1988 he was appointed as the first Governor of the North East Province.

The funeral of the late Commander is to be held on Saturday (15) at the General Cemetery of Borella, Colombo with full military honours.
