Tue, Aug 11, 2009, 07:05 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 11, Colombo: Stressing that terrorism is not just limited to Sri Lanka but a problem for the whole world Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa called all the countries affected by the terrorism to unite and end the menace.

"Terrorism is not only a problem for Sri Lanka. It is also a problem for the whole world. All these countries that have been fighting and talking against terrorism must get together and put a stop to this menace" President Rajapaksa said in an interview to an Indian TV news channel.

President Rajapaksa commenting on the arrest of the new leader of the LTTE said the terrorist outfit is still very active in some countries, especially in the South-East Asian and European countries and sought the help of the international community to crack down on the international financing arm of the LTTE.

Reiterating his commitment to democracy and power devolution the President insisted on a home-grown solution to the ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka and not a one based on suggestions from other countries. It should be a solution which can be agreed by all communities, he said.

"Devolution can be done. We have that in our constitution. We want to introduce a new chamber to share power with the minorities and the provinces. Federalism definitely is out in Sri Lanka," he said.

President Rajapaksa assured that his government is committed to resettle the displaced civilians in 180 days and the priority is given for de-mining the region to facilitate the resettlement. The infrastructure facilities are being established in the conflict-torn areas to provide a good livelihood once they are resettled, he said.
