Education opportunities for displaced Sri Lankan children

May 03, Colombo: Sri Lanka government is to establish a special program to recommence school activities of the Internally Displaced children living in welfare centers in Vavuniya.
During a special visit to Manik Farm welfare center in Vavuniya this morning, Sri Lanka President's senior advisor and parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa said they will start this programme with the assistance of UNICEF.
According to MP Rajapaksa, the government has already initiated discussions with UNICEF over the issue.
He pointed out that nearly 40,000 children living at the welfare centers in Vavuniya need to receive education that they missed due to LTTE activities.
President's Senior Advisor stressed that the government is determined to provide this opportunity to the displaced children with immediate effect.
